Why Old-Timer?


Old Timer Log Homes was started in 1978 by Paul Gentry. In its humble beginnings, Old Timer Log Homes operated from the basement of Gentry's parents' home in Mt. Juliet, TN. The first log was pushed through the mill near midnight December 31, 1978.  At this time, Gentry's focus was on manufacturing logs and building homes locally.

For several years Old Timer Log Homes produced two styles of logs. In 1984 it was evident that log home buyers wanted a larger selection. Since then Old Timer Log Homes has introduced a variety of log styles. Today, Old Timer Log Homes manufactures twenty different styles of kiln dried logs and log siding from which to choose. This makes Old Timer Log Homes one of, if not the most diversified manufacturer in the industry. Because we are the manufacturer, Old Timer Log Homes can ensure that each log home receives the same consistent care and craftsmanship.

Old Timer Log Homes operates five fully automated mills, some designed by Gentry himself. This gives us tremendous flexibility in our manufacturing. Each day hundreds of feet of lumber pass through the mill and are placed into our kiln, which ensures quality by drawing moisture from the wood (see kiln drying). As a leader in the log home industry, Old Timer Log Homes has a nationwide network of quality representatives in forty-one states and ships hundreds of log home packages each year. All are produced and supplied through the Mt. Juliet, TN mill.

Old Timer Log Homes has grown from an operation of one to employing more than forty people. A knowledgeable and experienced staff is here to help you every step of the way. Our qualified drafting department uses a state-of-the-art program to design and draw custom plans.
